19597 11/14, 11/21, 11/28, 12/5/25 DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE Forest Service PUBLIC NOTICE OF THE GILA COUNTY TOWNSITE APPLICATION Notice is hereby given that the Forest Service, United States Department of Agriculture, is considering an application by the Gila County Board of Supervisors, State of Arizona, for the conveyance of land for townsite purposes, pursuant to the Townsite Act of July 31, 1958 (72 Stat. 438; 7 U.S.C. 1012a; 16 U.S.C. 478a) as amended by the Act of October 21, 1976 (90 Stat. 2760). The application includes the following lands under jurisdiction of the Forest Service, Tonto National Forest, Gila County, State of Arizona. A portion of Section 2 and a portion of the East half of Section 3, Township 11 North, Range 9 East and a portion of Protracted Block 50 located within Township 11.5 North, Range 9 East of the Gila and Salt River Meridian, Gila County, Arizona, more particularly described as follows: BEGINNING at a General Land Office Brass Cap marking the Northwest corner of said Section 2, from which a General Land Office Brass Cap dated 1919 marking the North quarter corner of said Section 2 bears South 89 Degrees 21 Minutes 35 Seconds East, a distance of 2645.55 feet, and from which a General Land Office Brass Cap dated 1919 marking the West quarter corner of said Section 2 bears South 00 Degrees 02 Minutes 17 Seconds East, a distance of 2632.55 feet; The area described contains 521.2 acres more or less. Any or all of the above described land may be conveyed to Gila County for a price at not less than the fair market value thereof and subject to the restrictions imposed by the above act and the Regulations of the Secretary of Agriculture (36 CFR 254.20). Conveyance will be limited to those lands essential to community needs. A prerequisite to the conveyance will be an approved development plan and zoning ordinances, covenants, or standards needed for protection of the adjacent or contiguous National Forest System lands and to protect or mitigate valid existing rights and uses. The townsite application states the planned use of the property as: a land area for the existing landfill, adjoining material pit, additional land for a landfill expansion, and other Gila County buildings/services. The services provided at the landfill include solid waste disposal, redirecting green waste, recycling scrap metal, collecting and redirecting used oil, and collecting and redirecting tires. A map of the above described land is available for public review at the Payson Ranger District Office, 1009 E. Highway 260, Payson, Arizona. A Designation Order setting the above described lands aside for townsite purposes was issued by the Forest Supervisor, Tonto National Forest on November 6, 2025. In accordance with 36 CFR 254.22(b) and (c), this Designation Order segregates the described lands from mineral entry, but has no effect on valid, prior existing rights. The Designation Order will remain in effect until the described lands are conveyed or until it is cancelled by the Regional Forester. In accordance with 36 CFR 254.22, public comments must be filed within 45 days from first date of publication of this Notice.
